Chatty Tuesday – Georgi Oxley

We have yet to work with the FUNderful Georgi from ‘Where the Honey Runs‘ but we know that she is AMAZING at what she does.  Keep an eye out for exciting things coming soon, we’ve got a few little things a’brewing with Where the Honey Runs!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Georgi Oxley, originally from Australia, but spent the last 21 years in this neck of the woods (Spent 17 years in China). Love to create stuff with my hands.

2. How long have you been in Hong Kong and what do you do?

I’ve been in HK for 3.5 years where I set up my event planning company. My company Where the Honey Runs, is just on 2 years old.

3. When did you discover your passion/talent?

I own a pub in the mainland and when I lived there, I was doing a lot of events and most of the catering for it. When I moved to HK I thought I would continue in the same vein, but dropped the catering and picked up the event planning and decorating side of it. This evolved into handmaking bespoke decorations and partyware including pinata, favour bags, garlands and banners, and I give anything that is requested a go. It is very satisfying.

4. What do you love most about what you do?

I love the design side of my work. I love planning the event, and coordinating all the little bits and pieces to complete the look.

5. What/who inspires you to do what you do?

I have 3 kids and they inspire me to get creative. It takes several days to build and complete 1 pinata, and they love to get involved in choosing colours and styles.

6. What’s your favourite part of your journey so far?

My favourite projects are to do a complete party. I love the ones that not only want just the tableware etc, but they want me to coordinate all aspects of the party – cake, party favours, pinata and games, decoration. I also love making the pinatas

7. What’s been the most challenging part to date?

The most challenging piece I’ve done, I’d have to say was my Donald Trump pinata for a 40th. It turned out so great. The client loved it and we filled it with miniature liqueurs and chocolates.

8. What does a regular day look like for you?

When the client contacts me about an event they are planning, I would often meet them to talk about specifics. Here we discuss the theme, the idea of set up, the rough details of what they really are after. It is so important to understand exactly what the client wants and have them know that I am on their wavelength. I want to make it super easy for them and have them know that this aspect of their event if fully taken care of. They, then, can focus on their guests and enjoying themselves. If I am simply supplying the partyware for their event, rather than coordinating it, I carefully select the finest products and match them with their theme. I am very particular about colours and tones and make sure the client is 100% satisfied with my service.
